A modest yet transformative renovation of a typical 1960’s ranch house, on a quiet suburban street in the hills of Mount Soledad where neighbors are not so quietly turning small houses into large mansions. At the heart of the project is a small vertical addition, built to make space on the ground floor for a growing family while creating a new master suite and roof deck for grown ones and little ones to play amongst the backdrop of the site’s sweeping ocean view.

Downstairs, a light touch renovation to the existing ground floor and outdoor spaces clears out sixty years worth of clutter, reestablishing the home’s balance with the surrounding canyon landscape.
