Garden Room
Typology: Addition | Year: 2025 | Area: 120 sf | Location: San Francisco, CA | Status: Under Construction
A San Francisco Victorian from 1907 sits at the crossroads between four unique neighborhoods, all with storied cultural legacies of their own. In it, an artist and landscape architect desired a room for herself - distinct from her husband’s workspace on the other side of the wall - in which to focus on her craft. The rear of the little existing house had been rather rudely boxed in by recent neighboring additions, cutting off much of the access to natural daylight at the ground floor.
Drawing on historic elements in the existing house, this very small room addition breathes new life into the home’s living areas by reconnecting it to the sun, sky, and garden beyond.
